Her Story

Best known for her role as 'Aunt Louie' in FX's hit crime drama Snowfall, Angela Lewis is a powerhouse both on screen and in her community.

Her journey into birth work began with her own transformation into motherhood in 2019. Faced with the stark realities of the Black maternal health crisis, Angela sought a different path — one rooted in holistic care, ancestral wisdom, and unwavering advocacy.

"I feel like our health care system is terrible, and I didn't think birthing would be any different. So I really set out to do something more organic, more holistic."— Angela Lewis, HuffPost

Her experience with midwives and doulas not only shaped her daughter's birth but ignited a fire to ensure other families have access to the same level of support.

Angela Lewis — Oritan Philosophy

The Oritan Philosophy

Birth is not merely a medical event —
it is a sacred rite of passage.

We center the birthing person's autonomy, intuition, and power. As a doula, Angela brings the same preparation and presence she commands on screen to the birthing space — a witness, a guardian, and a guide.

Orítan

When Spirit touches the physical — and Light pours in.

A word created by founder Angela Lewis, Orítan is a double entendre. It is the moment the Spirit enters a baby’s body — and the moment of awakening or enlightenment for the mother, father, or any support person present.
